Consistency is Key, Tips To Keeping Your Home Sparkling Clean

With our busy lifestyles, at times it can be difficult keeping up with our house cleaning. The one thing I have found to be helpful is consistency and routine chores. By creating a list of routine chores, it helps keep you accountable for straightening up your home on a daily basis and helps prevent chaos when you have a party or guest coming over. Consistency will be key here, as we’ve all started something but often fell off the wagon, you want to make sure you continue your routine. If you have children, get the family involved. You can set aside 30 minutes of your children’s day to help with house chores, it helps teach them responsibility and helps you tidy up your home.

Here is an example of routine chores to help keep your home clean.

  • Make beds
  • Take out the trash
  • Wash dishes left in sink or load/unload dishwasher
  • Pick up clothes left out from day before
  • Pick up toys/playrooms (if you have children)
  • Wash Down counter tops/stove after cooking

By doing these daily chores, it can help maintain a good level of cleanliness in your home and helps take off a heavy work load at the end of the week.

  • Vacuum all carpets/rugs in your home
  • Mop/sweep all floors
  • Wash all kitchen appliances
  • Do laundry
  • Wash/Disinfect bathrooms including toilets and showers/tubs
  • Dust all furniture
  • Change bed sheets and bathroom towels

Although it may seem like a long list of weekly chores, if you keep up with your daily routine, by the end of the week your chores will be much easier to handle.

  • Wash windows
  • Organize kitchen, bathroom and closet clutter
  • Clean air vents
  • Clean inside refrigerator, oven and dishwasher
  • Clean inside kitchen and bathroom cabinets
  • Wash and clean light fixtures

Depending on your home and the amount of traffic in your home, you may find that its better to clean different parts of your home more frequently. If you have a pet, you may want to sweep or mop your floor twice a week versus the once a week recommended above. If you’re having a hard time getting motivated, it may be easier to make a checklist and physically check off everything you’ve completed for the week. Hopefully these tips can help you create a list of chores customized to your own home and don’t forget, consistency is key!

Happy Cleaning!
